The foundation of my final project have been looking into cultural differences, bringing East and Western ideas together by harmonising the designs with specially chosen fabrics, jewellery and accessories that could be worn just about anywhere; on a boat in the Carribean, Ascot races, afternoon summer tea-party, cocktail party or wedding. Be a sophisticated lady and wear it with a conscience!
I have chosen fibres from a variety of sustainable, eco-friendly, recycled and retro combinations: Bamboo, bamboo with organic cotton, bamboo velvet, bamboo silk, bamboo with jersey, pure silk, embelished with leather, feathers and sequins. And because of our weather being so unpredictable, my idea of using bamboo is that it not only keeps you warm in cool climates, but also keeps you cool in humid conditions- almost like an air conditioning unit. With it being antibacterial it is also good for sensitive skins.
I have been inspired by bands bringing in the retro and tribal subtle upbeats from the 1980 New Romantic era from Erasure, Stranglers, Kool & the gang mixed with todays new accoustics sounds.
Film ideas with congering reminders from the like's of Australia's "Mad Max" crossed with "Escape from New York", "Warriors", "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Laura Croft" influenced almost a mirage of unique offerings I have displayed.
